Healing Wounds, Restoring Hope

Specializing in the care and treatment of chronic and non-healing wounds, the Wound Healing Institute is staffed by affiliated physicians and surgeons, dieticians, patient educators, nurses, and other health professionals. The program uses a wide variety of medical techniques to promote successful healing and improve quality of life.

No matter what the cause of your wound, we will carefully assess your medical condition and health history with a complete initial work-up before recommending treatment. Your care will be tailored to your individual needs, and may include a variety of different treatment methods or components:

Medication  Many wounds can be treated successfully with topical medications.

Wound Cleansing  Most patients are taught how to cleanse their wounds properly, which helps promote healing.

Education  Treatment plans often include education of patients and their families or caregivers, to ensure proper wound care and help prevent recurrence.

Surgery  In certain cases, vascular surgery may be necessary to restore the free flow of blood. Other forms of surgery may include orthopedic, podiatric, plastic, and general. Surgery is performed by surgeons affiliated with FMC Campus.

Special Services  Ancillary services, including nutritional and diabetic counseling by a licensed dietician, diabetic educator, physical therap  and fittings for orthotics and prostheses, are available.

Advanced Wound Healing With Hyperbaric Oxygen

The Wound Healing Institute is pleased to offer another healing technique made possible with an advanced piece of equipment--the hyperbaric oxygen chamber. This special pressurized chamber contains 100 percent oxygen, which is breathed in through the lungs. It significantly increases the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream, improving circulation and providing many other benefits. Among other things, increased oxygen is delivered to the wound tissues, and infection control may be enhanced. This can help to advance the wound healing process.

Your Doctor: An Important Team Member

The Wound Healing Institute will work closely with your personal or primary care physician throughout your participation in the program. He or she may be contacted for health history information, and your progress will be reported regularly.
