Warning Signs Of Stroke

If you or someone with you has one or more of these symptoms, call 911 immediately.

.  Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body

.  Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding

.  Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes

.  Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination

.  Sudden, severe headache with no known cause.

A stroke is a brain attack.  During stroke, blood flow to the brain is blocked by a clot  or broken blood vessel.  The brain cells do not  get the oxygen they need and start to die.  Getting immediate medical care for stroke is important in saving brain function and bodily function.

As a Primary Stroke Center, Florida Medical Center follows national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients.  From Emergency Services through treatment and follow-up care, stroke patients receive advanced diagnostics, early intervention and medical care that follows protocols recognized as most effective.

Each year about 700,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 45 seconds and someone dies of a stroke every 3.1 minutes.  In the U.S., about 4.7 million stroke survivors are alive today.

There are two types of strokes. An ischemic stroke is caused when a blood clot blocks an artery or vessel in your brain. Eighty percent of strokes are ischemic.
