FORT LAUDERDALE, FL –
Anthony Vito, RN, has been appointed as Vice-President of the Broward County Stroke Board. Vito is the
Neuro-Stroke Program Manager for Florida Medical Center and will serve a one year-term.
The Broward County Stroke Council’s mission is to improve stroke care in South Florida through research, discover ways to decrease stroke within the community through community awareness projects, health fairs and other events.
The Broward Stroke Council was incorporated in 2007 as a non-profit organization to: help coordinate stroke care in Broward County; educate the public and health care professionals about the risk factors for stroke, measures for prevention and current treatments available to improve outcomes in acute stroke, and to foster research for the cure and alleviation of stroke and similar allied diseases. The board meets with stroke program coordinators throughout Broward County, including certified programs and those programs seeking certification quarterly at member hospitals.
As part of the board’s mission to educate the public about Stroke Awareness, Vito was instrumental in the decision made by the city of Oakland Park to designate May as "Stroke Awareness Month". Florida Medical Center will be offering stroke assessment screenings to the public during May.

Florida Medical Center is a "Certified Primary Stroke Center", as designated by Joint Commission. The Hospital participates in the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s "Get With The Guidelines" Stroke Center Accreditation Program and this past year received the Silver Award for Excellence in Advanced Stroke Care.
