LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL – North Shore Medical Center joins healthcare organizations worldwide and the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management (SABM) in celebrating the 3rd Annual Blood Management Awareness Week. The special week is dedicated to educating patients and healthcare professionals about blood management and blood issues.
At a recent Commission meeting, Mayor Barrington Russell, Sr. proclaimed Nov. 2-6, 2008, as Blood Management week for the City of Lauderdale Lakes.
FMC Campus has had a unique program for many years that addresses the needs of adult patients unwilling to accept blood transfusions, whether for religious, moral or hygienic reasons. This 'Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program' has been successful in expanding to reach out to more of the patient population.
The enhanced Blood Conservation Program will meet the increasing demand for "bloodless" medical and surgical services and will also incorporate blood conservation practices to appeal to patients who prefer to minimize the risk of infection from blood-borne illnesses and other complications.
