FORT LAUDERDALE -- Florida Medical Center celebrated a major milestone recently with a special ribbon-cutting opening reception for The Care Center for Women.

More than 100 members of the hospital's administrative and medical staff as well as local officials and civic leaders attended the reception and enjoyed a preview of the services and technology that the new center provides in a uniquely soothing and appealing setting.

Among those who attended the event was Glendora Silcott,  recently treated by the center's doctors for breast cancer and is now free of the disease.  Silcott has worked as a nurse at Florida Medical Center for the last 13 years, and she is now recovering from her surgery and chemotherapy before returning to work this summer.

"I'm very grateful for the excellent doctors and state-of-the-art technology at the new Care Center for Women," said Silcott.  "Having worked at FMC since 1995, it was truly helpful and beneficial for me to receive the support of my friends and colleagues from the hospital through the course of my difficult treatment process."

The Care Center for Women at FMC offers lymphedema diagnosis and treatment, reconstructive surgery, advanced imaging diagnostics and digital mammography, bone density screenings, stereotactic breast exams, and support groups.

The services are rendered in a calming ambiance that is accented by scenes of a sunny beach, blue skies and white clouds throughout the walls and ceilings.

Florida Medical Center, part of Tenet's Miami-Dade/Broward Health Network, is a 459-bed acute care hospital founded in 1973 and fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

Located at 5000 West Oakland Park Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale in western Broward County, Florida Medical Center offers a broad range of medical and surgical services.  Its Heart Institute of Florida, the hospital's center for cardiac services, is designated a Premium Cardiac Specialty Center by UnitedHealthcare.

The hospital earned the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award for 2008 from HealthGrades®, the leading ratings organization for hospitals and physicians, and it also earned five-star ratings from HealthGrades for its treatment of heart attacks, heart failure, stroke, pneumonia, hip fractures and other ailments.

Additional services include neurology and neurosurgery, cancer care, orthopedics, urology, psychiatry, gynecology, imaging, pain center, sleep lab, wound care, and 24-hour emergency services.  Additional information:  (954) 735-6000.
